The Nature of Things: Biomimicry (Part 1 & 2)
The main argument of the story is focused on the exploration of nature and to demonstrate that biomimics are learning and adapting. They are guided by humility to learn from nature, this film basically urges the movement to fit ourselves into this category wherein we can adapt to any situation or environment. It introduces the importance and difficult role of changing our global perspective in order to adapt to nature instead of attempting to control it. This film also has a significant connection to the debate on whether American culture is a sustainability problem (try to control nature as if it were a thermostat).
The argument is sustained via presented evidence by scientists, businesspeople and authors with significant knowledge in this area. It was rather interesting to see these scientists explaining these issues. I can relate to his for I am a chemist and rather interested in changing the world with sustainability and scientific advancements. The second part of the film focused on the materials and medicines based on scientific research of these biological processes. Understanding the science behind it is quite intriguing especially with the use of figures and representations that explain these complex reactions.
The sustainability problems that this film demonstrates includes ecological, technological, scientific, and cultural (therefore behavior). With understanding this science we can attempt to flow with the thermodynamics instead of trying to control it. In order to understand an emphasis on education and research should strive to focus on sustainability and trying to improve it. The cultural aspect includes the biomimicry connection and observation. The first part of the film includes agricultural and business as utilizing natural processes.
The parts of the film that were most compelling include the lack of eye contact, it could have had some affect on presenting unbiased facts and arguments. It seems rather impersonal as well as unique. This is not a film, its scientific endorsement of a greener science. It is rather easy to understand and seems gears toward a general rudimentary explanation of these processes. The storytelling aspect makes this more of a lecture, attempting to educate and increase understanding of photosynthesis and the possibility as its renewable energy resource.
This film may not be applicable for entertainment but rather a more educational program. This film is based on the testimonies of nerdy scientists who love biology, chemistry, economics, etcetera. There are so many principles that plants utilize in order to adapt. I decided to analyze this representation with respect to the education programs and methods of using science to aid understanding and excite youth for science.
The film best addresses younger audiences geared toward schooling and education. This makes science more comprehensive, which should be circulated to all generations for we all learn something new everyday. The film does not include too many difficult concepts and has a lot of professional enthusiasm which demonstrates the use of this within a science class. It is interesting for it introduces sustainability into the education, this in itself is a step towards a solution.
The film did an extremely thorough yet non-technical representation of science. It fulfills its purpose and is rather cute to watch as scientist.
This film focuses on how many different aspects of culture can be based upon the science. It is embracing natural chemistry to all the of the different realms such as business, science, medicine, technology, etcetera. Sustainability could provide a stronger connection of our culture to our policies, perceptions, and behavior.
Due to the importance of this issue,the analysis of two references can be seen in the suburban annotation as in any other sustainability problem which is affected by this immobile culture, which is dependent on our consumption. The education of any sustainability problem is going to be an issue, but this is a possible solution to educating and change the perspective of the public (starting with the young).
